Media Markt bets on state-of-the-art 4K-based video surveillance system

The company has equipped its stores with Panasonic WV-SFN480 360o IP UHD dome camera and Wavestore recorders in order to securize its network of shops in Spain.

Trending and having in-place the most innovative technology are two characteristic elements of Media Mark and this has been brought to its security systems where it has opted for 4K solutions for its stores.

The company VidaIP has been responsible for integrating video surveillance infrastructure into retailers, composed of True 4K cameras Panasonic and the recorders Wavestore. Media Markt's goal was to optimize resources in its stores while employing state-of-the-art 4K technology, two fields in which Panasonic's solution was shown to be the most suitable. This type of 360o cameras allows to cover approximately the 90% of the total area of the store, something that's not possible with a standard resolution team.

Panasonic's choice of 4K camera was held in two main arguments, on the one hand, quality and, on the other hand, its zenittal configuration that allows it to be placed in the center of the store and capture everything that happens in space, being able to identify the faces.

"Upgrading to 4K systems reduces between 30 And 40% the number of units needed to cover the same perimeter while retaining very high image quality", explains Juan Cabrera, PSCEU Sales Executive in GDP. In this way, in the case of Media Markt, has gone past needing some 60 cameras per store to install some 40.

These are fixed cameras that record in 360o but have the option of warping, although the image being recorded is a 360o cenital. The camera operator can enter to see the angle you want within these 360o, so in practice it offers the same views of a multi-camera system and, all of it, 4K quality.

Moreover, previous experience working with Wavestore's Media Markt was instrumental in being the other key pieces of this infrastructure. "Our recorders already have a great tour in the company where we have proven that we are what the customer needs", says Milton Acosta of Wavestore.

The result of VidaIP's joint work, Panasonic and Wavestore have already been implanted in 4 company's stores and the goal is to extend it to the entire commercial network in Spain. "Over the next few months we will be working to get this technology to each and every one of our stores", points out David Fernandez, Media Markt Security Manager.

WV-SFN480 with fisheye lens

To star in and live life the Media Markt project, the dome camera chosen was the WV-SFN480. A fisheye lens device that offers ultra high definition quality and resolution (Uhd) both in the center and in the corners of the image.

Ideal for a large number of applications, either in commercial stores, Intersections, Airports, railway stations and warehouses, this equipment is also suitable for situations where a large number of cameras were traditionally needed to cover the entire surveillance space with high image quality, as in the case of Media Markt.

Moreover, the Panasonic 360o 4K cameras chosen integrate an image compensation function that allows to provide a wide variety of transmission modes such as fisheye type flows, Panorama, double panorama, quad PTZ, single PTA and quad.

In addition, these cameras offer smart features (Business Intelligent) such as the heat map to detect high-traffic areas of people and long-term areas; counting people through up to 12 crossing lines; and even the moving object deleter, a unique feature that allows you to delete moving objects from images to provide privacy while preserving the background of the image.

The WV-SFN480 is also capable of providing images of 9 megapixels up to 15 fps and images of 4 megapixels up to 30 Fps, while the day and night function with digital noise reduction and the 3D-DNR system offer clear images in low light conditions.

At last, The virtual PTZ function allows the user to record the entire area while the user, if you wish, you can focus on observing at the same time a smaller area, so you don't miss any details (what is also known as dewarping)
