Genetec's unified technology allows ProRail to reduce response to railway incidents
The national railway network of the Netherlands, ProRail, have taken a decisive step in the transformation of railway security by implementing a unified platform Genetec that allows progress towards a smarter model, based on data, automation and collaboration.
With more than 7.000 cameras deployed on one of the busiest railway infrastructures in the world, ProRail needed a solution capable of managing complex environments in real time, optimizing decision-making and ensuring operational continuity for millions of daily passengers.
Thanks to the platform Genetec Security Center and its video management system Omnicast, operators have a complete view of the railway environment. The advanced video analytics capabilities allow automatic detection of intrusions, pedestrians on tracks or operational anomalies, generating real-time alerts.
The integration with Genetec Mission Control adds a critical layer of operational intelligence. The system filters events, correlates data and provides operators with contextual information along with guided procedures. This allows moving from reactive detection to proactive and structured response. Supervisors can even stop trains in less than a minute after detecting risk situations on the tracks, significantly reducing the potential impact on safety.
Agile management of evidence
The digitization of evidence management is another of the key pillars of ProRail's safety strategy. Through Genetec Clearance, ProRail can securely and almost immediately share relevant material with the National Police and other involved agencies. This approach allows investigations to begin within minutes, reducing response times and minimizing interruptions to rail service. Besides, through Federation, the organization facilitates real-time video sharing with the national railway operator (NS), improving coordination in critical incidents.
The implemented solution not only addresses current challenges, but also prepares ProRail for the future growth of railway traffic and the increase in data volume. The platform allows the integration of new technologies, such as smart sensors or drones, within a single ecosystem. At the same time, the organization maintains a strong commitment to privacy, applying anonymization techniques such as masks and video blurring to protect passengers' identities without compromising safety.
Kristian Ruiter, Project Manager at ProRail, states that “the ability to quickly detect incidents and act with contextualized information is key in an environment where no two days are the same. Genetec's solutions allow us to improve passenger safety and ensure a reliable and efficient rail network”.
