Synology secures the architectural legacy of the Norman Foster Foundation
The technology of Synology has been chosen to guarantee the conservation, security and accessibility of the historical archive of this institution, based in Madrid, which includes more than 120.000 items between planes, drawings, models, photographs and documents.
Norman Foster Foundation is an institution dedicated to safeguarding the legacy of one of the most influential architects in the world, whose headquarters are in the capital of Spain.
To ensure the protection of these assets, those responsible have trusted Synology what, in collaboration with the integrator Inmasan Technology, have provided the archive with an infrastructure capable of supporting the massive digitization of materials, the collaborative work of more than twenty-five professionals and the management of large files.
“Not only we preserve documents, we protect an architectural legacy which must be accessible to future generations, and for this we needed a technological solution up to that challenge”, explains Diego Tobalina, head of innovation and design of the foundation.
The project has consisted of deploying a data architecture that combines a Primary NAS device with local backup systems, remote and cloud, guaranteeing maximum protection against risks such as technical failures, cyber attacks or physical disasters.
The core of the infrastructure is Synology RS3621RPxs, that offers more than 100 TB storage, SSD cache and advanced data protection settings. As additional equipment for critical backups and cloud backup using Synology C2 the model is used DS1817+, with more than 60 TB of capacity.
With this solution, The Norman Foster Foundation has improved the simultaneous collaboration, has achieved a secure preservation of your historical archive and has won resilience against risks thanks to the redundancy of your backups.
The collaboration for more than a decade between this foundation and Inmasan Tecnología has been decisive in the success of the project. As its CEO assures, Javier Conesa: “The choice of Synology met the most complex risk scenarios, from data encryption to protection against fires or floods”.
With this infrastructure, The Norman Foster Foundation ensures that its archive remains protected and accessible to researchers, professionals and the general public. The initiative reinforces “the institution's commitment to education, sustainability and research, keeping alive and safe a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations”.
