Axis provides comprehensive protection to DS Graphics | Universal Wilde

Para su nuevo edificio, DS Graphics | Universal Wilde (DSG | UW) buscaba una solución que integrara videovigilancia con control de acceso y alarmas. la tecnología de Axis fue la opción elegida.

Es una empresa de servicios integrales de comunicación que produce y distribuye información impresa y electrónica para corporaciones y entidades gubernamentales, desde materiales promocionales, informes financieros y pólizas de seguro hasta exámenes de acceso a la universidad, formularios de inscripción de votantes y citaciones judiciales. La mayoría de los proyectos realizados en sus instalaciones de Canton (Massachusetts -EE.UU.) son documentos que contienen información personal identificable, sanitaria protegida u otros contenidos que requieren una difusión muy controlada.

“En un mes cualquiera podemos enviar decenas de millones de correos”, states Chris Wells, vicepresidente ejecutivo de ventas y marketing de DSG | UW. “Independientemente de si contiene la fecha de nacimiento de alguien o los planes del próximo lanzamiento de un producto, nuestros clientes no solo esperan que produzcamos ejemplares de gran calidad, sino también que protejamos sus datos confidenciales contra el acceso y la difusión no autorizados”.

Cuando consolidó sus plantas de Westwood y Rockland en un nuevo edificio de casi 3.000 metros cuadrados en Canton, la empresa decidió instalar un sistema de seguridad más eficaz que el que había desplegado en las dos propiedades más antiguas. “Buscábamos una solución más completa, que integrara la videovigilancia con control de acceso y alarmas”, explains Kevin Molloy, vicepresidente ejecutivo de TI y servicios al cliente de DS Graphics | Universal Wilde.

DSG |UW recurrió al proveedor de soluciones integradas Cross Camera Controls (CCC) and their partners to help them achieve that goal. An infrastructure based on Axis equipment was installed that incorporated its video management system Axis Camera Station, which controls more than two dozen fixed dome and high-resolution panoramic cameras, intercomunicadores con vídeo en red con lectores de tarjetas RFID encriptadas, controladores de puertas, network speakers and an interface with DSG's VoIP telephone system|UW.

“Each device has a unique purpose”, explains Thomas Lienhard, general manager of Cross Camera Controls. 'The cameras monitor the perimeter and the interior, and trigger the alerts'. Advantages of Axis Camera Station

Kevin Molloy points out several advantages in implementing Axis technology. “Las Axis 180° and 360° cameras not only provide us with clear images, but also allow us to reduce the number of cameras without sacrificing coverage”.

Keeping sufficient security records has been another advantage. “Most of our clients require us to keep 365 full days of records of users of our security cards”, states Molloy. “Axis Camera Station Secure Entry not only allows us to manage up to 70.000 credentials, but it can also store records for a year or more if our clients need it”.

Another problem that Axis’s solution solved was how to hear the doorbell in a noisy production environment. “If a truck driver coming to pick up or drop off an urgent delivery rings the bell or knocks on the door, nobody will hear it”, notes Thomas Lienhard. “So we set up the doorbell to send the signal to an Axis network speaker, which then emits an extremely loud ringing tone in the warehouse so that the workers know someone is waiting”.

Like many industrial plants, DSG | UW has established numerous security systems and protocols to protect its employees. They also receive rigorous training on the proper way to use equipment and handle confidential information. “Although we have full trust in the training and experience of our staff, if something were to happen, our Axis technology gives us the ability to quickly monitor and mitigate what occurred”, explains Chris Wells.

Molloy points as an example the sensors placed on the door of the storage cage and on the fire doors. In addition to logging alerts, Axios Camera Station's smart search feature makes it easy to find videos of specific incidents. “One Friday night we received a package for a client's project after hours”, remembered Kevin Molloy. “The night shift staff accepted the delivery and set it aside, but forgot to inform the morning staff where they had placed it. I was able to log into AXIS Camera Station remotely, review the video in question and quickly locate the lost package. It really saved us from losing an entire weekend of production”.

Virtual security audits

It was a great surprise for DSG | UW how they were able to use the Axis system to go from in-person compliance audits to virtual ones. “Generally, our customers come here, walk through the plant and review the user logs”, explains Chris Wells. 'But with the pandemic we had a customer who was reluctant to do it this way'.

So Kevin Molloy took the customer on a virtual tour of the facilities using Axis cameras, Axis Camera Station software and the shared screen.
