Telefónica and NTT Data bring 5G to the Port of Malaga to improve security

5G technology provided by Telefónica y NTT Data allows identification of vessels that do not have approved access to the Port of Malaga, thanks to the 4K video of the cameras, that is processed in a safe, high-performance device.

The association of Telefónica y NTT Data aims to build a 5G solution that allows control, effectively and in real time, the access of the different types of boats to the mouth of the Port of Malaga, thanks to the advanced communications capabilities of this technology.

Mainly focused on security, The project focuses on the deployment of a solution that will record the events associated with each vessel, generating valuable information to port personnel about those that are not allowed to circulate.

For this solution, NTT Data has contributed with its portfolio of technological solutions applied to ports, considering the use of analytical capabilities and of artificial intelligence to extract valuable information from the events captured with security cameras and 5G communications elements.

For your part, Telefónica has provided its 5G communications network in the city of Malaga and its nodo VDC Edge in Andalusia for the data processing close to port location, in which certain applications and necessary network functions will be hosted.

The technology provided by both companies allows identify the vessels who do not have approved access to the port, through 4K video which is processed on a high-performance device on the Edge node, for which both computer vision and analytical models are used.

The processing of information in real time will allow the generation of useful alarms for port personnel., with a clear focus on early detection and required actions, according to the action protocol.

This project is added to the nearly eighty that have been launched since Telefónica presented 5G Technology Cities, in the year 2018, among which is that of Malaga, a pioneering initiative in Spain to promote 5G with its application in real clients.

Industrialization of the solution

As part of this collaboration and according to the results of this project, NTT Data and Telefónica will study the possible industrialization of the solution, in order to include it in the operator's 5G solutions proposal for Spanish ports.
