Indra will implement in the urban and interurban public transport of Tenerife a system of aid to the exploitation (Sae) to manage the fleet of 530 buses of the island in which an on-board video surveillance solution is integrated that will offer greater security to users. It will also install a contactless ticketing solution whose management will be centralized in a control center. A project that is the result of an agreement signed with the Cabildo for an amount of 9,1 millions of euros.

The multimodal contactless ticketing solution that Indra is going to implement will replace the current ticketing system based on magnetic stripe and will allow citizens to use a single contactless card, that is validated by bringing it closer to the reader, to access city buses, Intercity, tram and even to 40 island taxis. In this way, intermodality will be promoted, combined use of different means of transport.

Public transport users will also be able to use this contactless card to pay for the deterrent parking that the island has to reduce the access of the private vehicle to the cities. Contactless cards can be recharged in about 300 points of sale and recharging equipped with automatic machines and manual sales terminals.

Control center

A new state-of-the-art control center will integrate all the information from the central ticketing system, which will facilitate the economic management of the service.

Include validation subsystems in buses, Taxis, car parks and tram stations; recharge at sales terminals and automatic machines; inspection via portable terminals; financial compensation in the Cabildo for the associated companies TITSA (Interurban Transport of Tenerife) and MTSA (Metropolitan of Tenerife); and attention to the citizen, for a correct management of the use of the cards.

From the control center you will be able to know at all times where each vehicle in the fleet is located, see the images of the cameras on board, manage the information provided to users and make real-time decisions in the event of incidents, need for reinforcements, or any deviation from the planned service.

This is possible thanks to geographic information systems, on-board bus equipment and mobile communications infrastructure, with WiFi and 3G technology, with which Indra's solution has. In addition, reports and graphs can be generated to know in detail the service, adjust it to the real demand of citizens, improve its quality, increase performance and reduce costs.
