Unseen images of glacier melting through Axis IP cameras

The IP video surveillance provider Axis Communications shows the footage captured by its cameras during a recent Arctic expedition, during which they tested the durability of their devices in extreme situations.

The Swedish multinational Axis Communications has presented the video scenes recorded during a recent Arctic expedition to test the real durability of its surveillance cameras in extreme situations. Strong winds, rain, freezing cold, and constant movement have been the elements that the network camera Q6034 of this provider has had to withstand, located at the top of the mast of the sailboat Belzebub II.

The expedition team A Passage Through Ice, composed of Edvin Buregren, Nicolas Peissel and Morgan Peissel, have been the first to navigate the route from Greenland to Alaska, since until now it had only been crossed by an icebreaker in order to keep the channels open for navigation.

To film and document the navigation, the team has used the Axis Q6034 network video surveillance camera installed on the mast of the boat.

As Edwin Buregren explains, 'when you sail through the ice',, you need someone to sit at the top of the mast as a bird's-eye view. It is the worst place you can be when sailing, since the weather conditions, the wind, and the movement are much worse up there than on the deck. Esta expedición se ha realizado para servir como testimonio visual del deshielo polar. “El Ártico se está derritiendo a un ritmo alarmante -asegura este expedicionario de A Passage Through Ice-. Navegando a vela por esta nueva ruta abierta esperamos que nuestra expedición aporte su pequeño grano de arena para llamar la atención sobre el cambio climático y contribuir a un gran cambio de actitud en todo el mundo”.

A ello se añade la posibilidad que ha tenido la empresa sueca de poner a prueba en condiciones de uso extremo su modelo Q6034 resiste un uso muy extremo. Según Erik Frännlid, director de gestión de producto en Axis Communications, “las soluciones de vídeo en exteriores de Axis están diseñadas para resistir condiciones climáticas extremas y proporcionar una vigilancia fiable en todo momento. Ya conocemos la cobertura de la cámara de red en ambientes de frío extremo”.

Como recuerda Frännlid, este mismo modelo se ha instalado a 35.000 metros en un globo estratosférico, “una altura donde el frío es mucho mayor que a nivel del suelo. Pero la expedición a través del Paso Noroeste demuestra particularmente que la cámara es capaz de resistir temblores, vibrations, humedad y cambios de temperatura durante varios meses”, subraya este directivo de Axis.
