The manufacturer of comprehensive IP video security solutions, IndigoVision, has been chosen by Metrorio, the metro network of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, to replace its outdated analog surveillance system with a complete IP video security solution that protects 700.000 people who use this transportation service daily.

Metrorio, Rio de Janeiro's subway system, has implemented a comprehensive video solution IndigoVision to protect 700.000 passengers you receive on a daily basis and to provide possibilities for extending your service. Metrorio chose IndigoVision to replace its old analogue system thanks to the image quality of its cameras, that allow accurate identification of the individuals present in the security recordings, and the flexibility offered by IP security systems, that can be expanded to accommodate the growth of the metro system.

Newton Werneck, DIRECTOR of IT at Metrorio, has declared: “The image quality offered by IndigoVision is excellent and the distributed architecture of the system will allow the surveillance network to grow along with the subway system”.

Another crucial factor in obtaining the Metro contract is the high efficiency and reduced size for system file storage. The storage capacity required is significantly reduced compared to other IP video systems thanks to IndigoVision's advanced compression technology and the use of the activity-controlled Frame Rate per second feature (Activity Controlled Framerate or ACF), integrated into IP cameras. The ACF function regulates the frame rate per second of the video stream according to the motion of a particular scene.

IndigoVision's system also provides Metr-Rio with enhanced incident storage and content distribution across the network; IndigVision's distributed architecture eliminates the need for a central server.

IndigoVision's Brazilian partner, Setha Prossegur, worked with Metrorio to create the surveillance system, which includes 141 fixed IP cameras, 21 PTZ cameras and approximately 700 existing analog cameras that has been integrated into the system via IndigoVision encoders. A network video recorder has been placed (NVR-AS 3000) IndigoVision at each station, backed between stations.

Advantages
· High-quality image that translates into accurate identification of individuals
· High-quality surveillance protection for passengers
· Distributed architecture that adapts to the future expansion of the metro system
· Reduced storage thanks to advanced compression technology; frame rate per second controlled by activity (Acf) integrated into IP cameras
· Content distributed and accessible to network users
· Minimized bandwidth usage over a wide area network
· Existing analog cameras can be fully integrated into the IP system
