The company specialized in the network video market, Axis Communications, announced Axis Camera Companion, a simple IP video solution for small installations. It is a free client software that operates with Axis network cameras or video encoders with support for recording to SD cards. This solution has been designed for video systems consisting of up to 16 cameras and is indicated for use in commercial establishments, Offices, hotels and other small businesses that need simplicity and future-proof video surveillance with HDTV quality.

Eloina Weijl, Axis Communications Iberia Marketing Manager, explained that "while network video is replacing analog in large installations, smaller systems remain largely relying on analog cameras and DVR's. Thanks to this new solution we offer a reliable alternative to a market segment that until now did not have easy access to IP video. Since Axis Camera Companion can record to sd cards of cameras or encoders, the solution is very simple, robust and economical. Now even the smallest business owners can take advantage of the benefits of IP video, as HDTV image quality, remote access and scalability".

This new solution allows SMB owners to use HDTV IP cameras to help them clearly identify a potential intruder, a thief or any other incident. The video can be viewed live and allows you to access the recordings from any computer with access to the network or the Internet. The system supports motion detection in video and horizontal motion control, vertical and zoom of PTZ cameras. Both video streams and photographs can be easily exported and sent to other co-workers or authorities. The system also supports the use of third-party applications for viewing live or recorded video from smartphones and tablets such as iPhone, iPad or Android.

No additional cables

In front of analog video installations, Axis Camera Companion doesn't need a central recording device such as a DVR, an NVR or computer. Cameras are fed through PoE, eliminating the need for additional power cords. All images are recorded to a standard SD memory card inside cameras or encoders and even if the network failed the cameras would continue recording. This architecture reduces costs, simplifies installation and makes the system more robust as there is no single point of failure.

Axis Camera Companion solution consists of three parts: AXIS Communications IP cameras or encoders with local storage support for SD card recording, a free client software that supports third-party applications for live video viewing or standard network recordings and equipment such as routers, switches, SD cards and/or NAS devices. Existing analog cameras can also be integrated into the system using video encoders.

Most network cameras and Axis video encoders with version 5.40 or higher installed firmware support Axis Camera Companion software, which is now available for free download from the Axis website.
