Camera in Sant Antoni de Portmany

He Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council (Ibiza) awards the supply, installation and maintenance of a flow management system, capacity control, social distancing and citizen security for an amount of 656.000 euros.

The action includes the installation of 79 nuevas cámaras, which will be integrated with the 40 already existing ones, which will allow the municipality to have a total of 119 cameras.

The project is part of the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience, and is financed with 300.000 euros by the European Union – NextGenerationEU and other 300.000 euros from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) of the Balearic Government, while the City Council contributes 56.000 euros from its own funds.

Among the new additions, notable are 59 environment cameras, intended for traffic management and control (coches, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles and scooters), as well as the control of the flow of people and video surveillance. Of these, 13 cameras will be dedicated to the Environment area for container point control, which will be added to the 5 current, reaching a total of 18 cameras in this area. Additionally, they will be installed 20 intelligent license plate reading cameras (LPR technology) for vehicle counting and control, which will raise the total to 23 units.

An integrated and more efficient system

At the moment, the City Council has 40 cameras distributed in 23 municipality points, used mainly for surveillance tasks. All this equipment will be integrated into the new system, improving efficiency and expanding its functionalities.

With the new contract, these 79 new cameras will be implemented at 42 new control points, lo que permitirá alcanzar un total de 65 zonas en todo el municipio.

La concejala de Seguridad Ciudadana, Neus Mateu, has highlighted that “this project represents an important advance in the modernization of Sant Antoni de Portmany and in the improvement of citizen security, strengthening both prevention and the capacity to respond to any incident”. Mateu has also pointed out that the expansion of the video surveillance system “is an important investment in resources aimed at improving security, which represents a qualitative leap both in surveillance, and in the control of mobility and of the flow of people in our municipality”.
