Port of Malaga

5G technology provided by Telephone And NTT Data allows you to identify vessels that do not have approved access to the Port of Malaga, thanks to the 4K video of the cameras, that is processed in a secure, high-performance device.

The association of Telephone And NTT Data aims to build a 5G solution that allows control, effectively and in real time, the accesses of the different types of boats to the mouth of the Port of Malaga, thanks to the advanced communications capabilities of this technology.

Focused mainly on the Security, the project focuses on the deployment of a solution that will record the events associated with each vessel, generating valuable information to port personnel on which they are not allowed to circulate.

For this solution, NTT Data has contributed with its portfolio of technological solutions applied to ports, considering the use of analytical capabilities and artificial intelligence to extract valuable information from events captured with security cameras and 5G communications elements.

Port of Malaga

For its part, Telefónica has provided its 5G communications network in the city of Malaga and its VDC Edge node in Andalusia for the data processing close to the port location, in which certain necessary applications and network functions will be hosted.

The technology provided by both companies allows identify vessels who do not have approved access to the port, through 4K video that is processed on a high-performance device on the Edge node, for which both computer vision and analytical models are used.

The processing of information in real time will allow to generate useful alarms for port personnel, with a clear focus on early detection and required actions, according to the protocol of action.

This project is in addition to the nearly eighty that have been launched since Telefónica presented 5G Technology Cities, in the year 2018, among which is the one in Malaga, a pioneering initiative in Spain to promote 5G with its application in real customers.

Industrialization of the solution

As part of this collaboration and according to the results of this project, NTT Data and Telefónica will study the possible industrialization of the solution, in order to include it in the proposal of 5G solutions of the operator for Spanish ports.

As you point out Irene Bernal, Director of Innovation in Connectivity at Telefónica, "it is essential to explore with our customers, as in this case the Port of Malaga, how 5G can help the digital transformation of Public Administrations and companies, where it is key to have top-level technology partners such as NTT Data”.

Teodoro Lopez Palacios, NTT Data Telecommunications Industry Partner, "This initiative is an example of how 5G technology and the capabilities it enables can bring great benefits and advantages when it comes to improving operations in the port sector.. For our company it is key to work together with Telefónica in the development of 5G use cases that allow Spain to be among the most advanced countries in obtaining clear benefits from the use of the capabilities offered by this new technology.”.
