This pilot project consists of a system that includes three steps throughout the entire process: biometric record, access and verification of identity in the security control and boarding on the plane.

Dormakaba and Everis at Linate Airport

The Linate Airport (Milan) is testing a new self-boarding system that has been implemented by Dormakaba and aerospace everis, Defense and Security (everis ADS).

This system allows travelers to register through a mobile app or kiosk at the airport and, subsequently, access both the security control and the plane itself, without the need to present any identity document or boarding pass.

The pilot project, active since the beginning of the year, it has been promoted by the Italian airport operator SEA and is available for VIP passengers of the airline Alitalia on flights from Milan to Rome.

The system includes three main steps throughout the process. First the biometric registration in the system, then the access and verification of the identity in the security control and, At last, boarding the plane.

It is also connected to the airport operator's validation applications and includes the necessary technological developments to ensure the levels of confidentiality required by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for biometric recognition systems.

The starting point for travel without a boarding pass or documents is the passenger registration process. In this case, the user can do this by using two options: using a mobile app (available for iOS and Android) Or, alternatively, using a kiosk installed in the departures terminal (and soon also in the VIP area of Alitalia) where the user can associate their biometric profile with their boarding pass.

Once biometric registration has been carried out, either by app on phone or kiosk, the passenger will be able to access the security controls of the terminal without having to show any identity document or boarding pass.

Finally,, at the time of boarding the plane, the passenger will be able to do so through automatic doors with a system that verifies the biometric identity of the traveler, without having to show any documents or boarding pass: the final step for a totally paper-free journey.

In the project, dormakaba has acted as coordinator among the parties involved in this technological pilot. You have provided the doors installed in the security control, as well as boarding gates.

In both types of doors has been integrated the technology of facial recognition of everis ADS, which allows the identification of travelers.

Everis ADS has also provided the mobile app, the central management engine, facepods for identity confirmation at security checkpoints and kiosks.
