Johnson Control secures Puerto Bahia Colombia

The most modern terminal in Colombia, Bahia Port, has had Johnson Controls to implement a complete security system, based on Artificial Intelligence, integrated by access control solutions, monitoring and video surveillance.

Johnson Controls has unveiled its latest high security solution installed in Bahia Port, the most modern port terminal in Colombia. This is based on Artificial Intelligence technology and is integrated by access control systems, monitoring and video surveillance.

The most modern port terminal in Colombia, located in the heart of the bay of Cartagena and with only six years of operations, has become a benchmark in technology and resource optimization. This is so., thanks to the first bulk liquid handling spring, fully automated, of the country and hydrocarbon storage capacity of almost 2,7 million barrels.

These features, added to the high flow of employee personnel, contractors and visitors, made the port require an access solution, monitoring and video surveillance of the highest standards worldwide.

The first step for Puerto Bahia was to implement the event management and access control system C•Cure 9000 from Johnson Control to facilitate employee entry management, contractors and visits.

This scalable solution supports up to 5.000 readers per server and 500,000 cardholders for access control. In addition, as the system offers video viewing and dynamic reports on system activity, alarms and visits, allows to centralize the management of security operations.

With C•Cure 9000, maps functionality and dynamic view can be leveraged to gain critical information and improve response time to security-related incidents.

Visual monitoring

To perform a visual monitoring of the facilities, Puerto Bahia implemented 136 Cameras Tyco Illustra Flex.

IP cameras were placed all over the interior of the facilities and in the outdoor areas in order to capture high-quality images., both day and night. In this way, the terminal can take advantage of features such as high-definition imaging and built-in anti-sabotage detection, that identify a blocked lens or bright light. Day/Night mode allows you to record high-quality video in low-light conditions.

Each camera is monitored in real time through the video management system (Vms) exacqVision, a scalable solution, intuitive and easy to use. Thanks to this system, port security personnel can point to important recordings for viewing another day or perform a quick search for anomalies in the video.

Artificial Intelligence, to strengthen security

Relying on the latest technological advances, Puerto Bahia also incorporated Tyco Radar, the first implementation of its kind in Colombia, in which an integrated ground radar system has automatic cameras that track intruders.

With a total of eleven radars, this system provides complete coverage of the entire perimeter of the Maritime Terminal.

"During the solution design process, we incorporate the artificial intelligence platform to Tyco Radar, along with exacqVision integration, to classify video objects in real time and identify possible false alarms", comments Mónica Prieto, Business Development Manager of Johnson Controls in Latin America North and Andean Region.

The executive highlighted, In addition, that the deep learning engine provides greater effectiveness in the perimeter protection of Puerto Bahia, as it allows operators to assess the risk with respect to what is being tracked through the Tyco Radar system, such as automobiles, Motorcycles, people or animals.

"When that happens., the system automatically tracks the intrusion using the PTZ function of the Illustra cameras", adds Prieto.

State-of-the-art technology that reduces operating costs

The development implemented in the port made it possible to make visible that digital transformation is not synonymous with huge investments that cannot be recovered. "We invest in cutting-edge technology and, thanks to this, we reduced security costs by 30 percent", says Alejandro David Sejnaui, director of technology and processes of Puerto Bahia.

As part of its Digital Transformation strategy 'DigiPort', the company is implementing new automation and innovation projects based on technologies 4.0 such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence that will allow it to be a benchmark for port security for all of Latin America.
