The new Unified Controller UC3200 is the first Synology dual controller for high-availability iSCSI data services, that the manufacturer just introduced along with its RXD1219sas expansion unit.

As Jason Fan explains, Synology Product Manager, "Enterprise IT administrators have the challenge of finding an iSCSI solution with virtually zero downtime, with a simple user interface and affordable cost. Unified Controller UC3200 is designed to fix these issues".

This new active-active IP SAN solution “maximizes service uptime, as its intuitive operating system allows administrators to manage two controllers from a single portal, thus facilitating management without the need to have a complicated learning”, add Fan.

High reliability

With a quad-core Intel Xeon CPU, 2,4 GHz and 8 GB (expandable up to 64 GB) DDR4 ECC UDIMM per controller, Synology UC3200 offers more than 140.000 Random write 4K IOPS in an integrated 10 Gbe: an Ethernet port of 10 GbE and two of 1 Gbe, support for failover and link aggregation modes.

This scalable system offers twelve SAS drive bays by default, scalable up to 500 TB with two RXD1219sas drives, to which is added a flexible design, since the key components of the system, including SAS modules and fans, can replace to increase system uptime.

Synology allied with Unitech Computer during the pre-launch of the beta program to ensure the stability of UC3200 in real production environments, that "has exceeded our expectations thanks to its excellent user experience. Setup requires no effort, not to mention transparent failover between the two active-active controllers when our virtual storage fails.", says Tony Chen, Director of the Technical Support Department at Unitech Computer.

With its unique hardware design, Synology UC3200 Helps Businesses Eradicate, almost entirely, service interruptions and facilitating IT operations.

For this it has a non-transparent bridge (NTB), which allows the controller to resume service when there is a breakdown; automatic encryption unit (THIRST), supports data encryption to protect critical data at the hardware level, and integrated Sata-Dom, with isolation of the operating system from critical data.

Also offers cache protection, with synchronization of cached data between the two controllers, which prevents data loss in case of driver failure before writing data to hard drives, and has a five-year warranty.

UC3200 provides optimal, verified iSCSI virtualization integration for VMware vSphere 6.5, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and OpenStack Cinder.

As a storage space upgrade solution for UC3200, The Synology RXD1219sas 2U expansion unit allows you to add up to twelve additional 2.5" and 3.5" SAS drive receptacles by connecting both directly with a mini-SAS HD cable.
