Skidata sMove

Skidata, Part of Assa Abloy, has developed sMove, an access door based on sensors designed to speed up entry at mountain destinations, stadiums, amusement parks and other venues with large crowds.

Visitors to these places usually arrive with skis, snowboards, bicicletas, bags or with strollers and wheelchairs. Traditional doors can slow down people when they require a fixed movement pattern or force a complete stop at the entry point. sMove is designed to reduce that friction and help people keep moving.

The solution is compatible with the most common entry technologies, such as smartphones, QR code and barcode scanning, RFID and NFC. Utiliza security and people detection sensors to continuously track movement in the background, creating a more intuitive access experience for both visitors and operators.

sMove is available in two formats: sMove Turn follows a more traditional turnstile structure, while sMove Wave uses a soft, flexible barrier element that folds instead of blocking passage.

The development of sMove was a process of testing, learning, and close collaboration. Clients, socios, service teams, and real-world facilities helped shape the solution and improve its performance over time.

By the winter season 2025/26, sMove had reached a high level of stability in daily operation, and the visitors walked through the doors intuitively, even during peak hours. The solution has also received several international design awards, including a Red Dot Design Award.

Johannes Mayrhuber, senior product director at Skidate, comments that “every access point is part of the visitor experience. With sMove, we wanted to create a solution that worked safely and reliably, while helping people get faster to what they had come to find”.
