On the N4 toll road in South Africa, an IP video surveillance network has been set up consisting of 130 IP9165-LPR-A LPR cameras, 105 IB9387-HT, installed in the rails, and others 105 IT9389-H, that have been placed in the cabins.

Route N4 is a toll road concession that extends 630 kilometers from Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique and a deep-water port in the Indian Ocean. In operation since August of the year 2000, is one of the most important trade routes in the region and runs through South Africa from Botswana to Mozambique.

Surveillance on the N4 route is integrated, Mainly, by analog cameras and DVRs. Swap outdated analog equipment for IP surveillance along 630 kilometers poses a great challenge, without taking into account the need for a smooth transition without disrupting daily toll operations.

Commissioned by Trans Africa Concessions (TRAC), Vivotek collaborated with the system integrator, Africa Technology Operations and Maintenance (ATOM), to upgrade and replace hundreds of cameras on the N4 toll road.

This has included upgrading many individual DVRs to a centrally managed system., using VAST software 2 by Vivotek.

A total of 130 cameras 2 Megapixel IP9165-LPR-A Kit for license plate recognition (Lpr). These are outdoor-ready with IP68 and IK10 rated housings, and its anti-glare capabilities enable crisp two-lane LPR, at speeds up to 90 km/h.

In addition, have been installed 105 Cameras Vivotek IB9387-HT in N4 toll lanes to provide general surveillance coverage.

The IB9387-HT outdoor bullet type cameras with high resolution and 5 Megapixels offer optimal image quality at 30/60 fps in 1080P. They are also equipped with IR illuminators up to 50 meters for night visibility.

Both IP9165-LPR-A and IB9387-HT perform dual surveillance and detection functions, effectively minimizing financial losses from intentional and unintentional incidents.

Toll booths

Inside the toll booths, along the N4, have been installed 105 Vivotek cameras IT9389-H to record high-quality audiovisual data as evidence in case of disputes.

The IT9389-H outdoor turret cameras 5 megapixels have Supreme Night Visibility (Snv) And 120 dB WDR Pro, ensuring high-resolution images at 30 fps at any time of the day.
