Alarmtech explains when to use an impact detector or a seismic detector

The new European standard UNE-EN 5011-2-8 specifies certain requirements and, gracias a ello, it is possible to discern when to choose an impact detector or a seismic detector.

What is an impact detector?

Also known as a vibration sensor or impact sensor, it is an inertial magnetic detector that allows detecting an attack on a physical barrier, like a door or a window.

The impact detector DEM-716 (CD 475) of Grade 3 from Alarmtech provides precise and reliable monitoring against attacks made with mechanical tools, in addition to protecting against cutting tool attacks, like the saber saw.

The detection range is up to 3 meters away, it shows high resistance to false alarms and has the EN50131 Grade certificate 3. DEM-716 is especially designed to protect very high-risk spaces.

This detector can be installed on windows or doors, as well as on a concrete wall if done with the DEM-683 installation plate (MP 500) from Alarmtech.

What is a seismic detector?

For your part, the seismic detector (or seismic sensor) does not have a European standard. Nevertheless, aunque realiza una función muy similar a los detectores de impacto, este tipo de dispositivos captan vibraciones y oscilaciones de sonido.

Thanks to it, son idóneos para los ataques de perforación (lanzas térmicas), como cajas fuertes, cámaras acorazadas y blindadas o cajeros automáticos.

El detector sísmico DEM-682 (VD 500) of Grade 3 de Alarmtech es una solución fiable y resistente contra ataques de explosivos, herramientas térmicas y mecánicas, como sierras circulares, esmeriles o brocas diamantadas.

Está homologado en banca y por diferentes fabricantes de cajeros automáticos, protegiendo cajas fuertes, armeros, archivadores metálicos, cajeros automáticos o muros de hormigón, y para instalaciones de grado 3.

DEM-682 es un detector con una alta inmunidad a perturbaciones ambientales, thanks to the possibility of setting its sensitivity and type of object through DIP switches.

In this sense, it must be installed firmly, avoiding joints in the material. As in the previous case, to install on concrete and brick walls it is advisable to use the DEM-683 installation plate (MP 500), and the protective box can also be used DEM-680 from this manufacturer to maintain the appropriate humidity.
