Iberia increases airport security with biometric detection with tablet
Together with Aena, Inetum and Thales, The airline company evolves its facial recognition project at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, which has received support from the CDTI.
With the aim of increasing security by avoiding contact, Iberia participate in this R&D project, as part of the consortium participated by Aena, Inetum y Thales, to seek new ways of operating in the air transport sector, taking into account the new health security measures implemented as a consequence of Covid-19.
This innovation project allows biometric detection of passengers thanks to the use of mobile equipment (tablet type), which will improve your travel experience at the airport by streamlining the entire process and eliminating any type of physical contact, which further increases security in all airport procedures.
The use of these mobile devices also incorporates the concept of mobility, so that with a reduced number of devices it is possible to operate a large number of different flights and destinations. The system will also improve detection capabilities, with passenger identification even with the protective mask.
This initiative has received support from the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), through the R&D cooperation program, thus contributing to the improvement of the technological level and the digitalization of Spanish companies through the development of proposals based on innovation.
For this R&D project, and in compliance with new contactless safety measures, the facial recognition platform deployed in the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (currently in pilot testing phase) will serve as a stage for the development of new functionalities.
With this objective, for this project that has evolved over time (more details in Digital Security) The contribution of leading companies in their sectors has been unified to achieve the necessary developments and technological validation.
Specifically, Iberia, as operating airline; Inetum, as a systems integrator company; Thales, as a provider of biometric technologies and identity validation processes, and Aena, as airport manager, responsible for intermediate integration systems between airline and biometrics engine.
