Playa de Aro reduces crimes with IP video surveillance and license plate recognition

The local police of this tourist municipality located on the Costa Brava, in the province of Gerona, has faced the criminal acts of organized gangs, mainly in summer, with the deployment of a license plate recognition solution with Axis cameras and alert management from the Alphanet Security Systems platform.

Aro Beach (Platja d’Aro) has been postulated as one of the pioneer towns in Spain by deploying a complex and advanced network video surveillance system to reduce crimes that mostly occur in the summer season., with the increase in population - up to 119%- who will enjoy this tourist environment.

The project is based on the license plate reading technology through the manufacturer's IP cameras Axis, which has not only allowed the correct intervention of the security forces in cases of incidents, but also facilitates the identification of suspicious vehicles and the prevention of possible crimes, which has resulted in a significant reduction, from up to 30-40%, of crime in this municipality, depending on the type of crime, generating greater tranquility and security in the population.

Alphanet Security Systems, company specialized in citizen security systems and partner of Axis, has been in charge of deploying this local security project in the different accesses and key points of the Catalan municipality, as well as at the entrances and exits of different residential developments..

The video system is made up of 47 Axis P1354 cameras, that offer specific and appropriate parameters for reading license plates and optimal results in Wimax communications environments, which are key for this type of projects, as explained by the integrating company.

The distribution and installation of these network devices has been carried out at access points in the city., as well as at the entrance and exit of residential developments. The system reads the license plate, generating an alert in real time in case it is registered in the list of vehicles of police interest.

With it, The notice reaches the local police control center, offices and their official vehicles with relevant data such as license plate number, photographs, detection location and direction of travel, to achieve rapid and effective intervention in robbery situations, thefts, scams or acts of vandalism.
