The Directorate-General for Traffic of the Ministry of the Interior, Renfe and The Basque multinational group Ikusi, integrated solutions provider in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, are part of the, together with eight other European companies, SAVASA security project to develop a video search software platform.

blankA dozen companies, technology centres, universities and video operators of large-scale archives from five countries, including the Directorate-General for Traffic, Renfe and the Basque firm Ikusi, make up the European SAVASA security project, which aims to develop a software platform aimed at improving intelligent video file search and advanced analysis supported by semantic video processing technologies and developments for the deployment of its services in the “cloud”.

The project has the important participation of a group of expert end-users at European level who will define the current and future requirements of these technologies to improve the safety of citizens, while ensuring your privacy. Together with the three Spanish entities, also participate in the Vicomtech-IK4 protection, Baker and Mc Kenzie y Sintel (Italy), HI-Iberia Engineering and Project and Dublin City University (Ireland), University of Ulster (United Kingdom), and INECO and Demokritos (Greece).

SAVASA has a budget of 4,1 million euros and is largely funded by the European Commission, through the Seventh Framework Programme (7Pm) on its security side. The project has an estimated duration of 30 Months. The launch of this initiative is due to the European Union's objective of developing “effective ways of exploiting video files that overcome current limitations and increase the effectiveness of preventive security actions”.

“Today, infrastructure operators (Airports, Trains, Meters) use different video surveillance technologies that allow the installation and operation of diverse and non-interoperable video file systems, so the exploitation of information by legal agencies is not possible, both technically and operationally”, have specified since Ikusi. The current situation stems from the lack of automatic video file search technologies to overcome all these technological limitations, legal and interoperability systems.
