The anti-drone system from Inetum and ATL reaches five F110 frigates of the Spanish Navy

Five frigates of the F110 series of the Spanish Navy will have protection against drones and improvised explosive devices remotely controlled by radio (RC-IED) from DRIS, un sistema de Inetum y ATL which will be adapted for port defense thanks to a contract signed with Navantia which will extend over the next six years.

DRIS (Drone Inhibition System) has been designed to detect potential threats through signal analysis in communication bands and to identify, through artificial intelligence, whether it is a real threat in the form of an unmanned aerial system (UAS) or a remotely controlled explosive device. All this without interfering with other ship systems.

Once a transmission is detected on the frequencies configured as threatening, the system deploys countermeasures of the soft-kill type to neutralize it. DRIS can operate both in fully automatic mode and manual mode, although in the latter case it will require direct operator intervention.

In addition to meeting a demanding set of technical requirements related to integration into the most advanced frigates of the Navy, the solution has been designed to offer high installation flexibility, which includes its possible deployment on other ships, as well as the ability to incorporate future updates. José María Castillón Polo, director de la práctica de EW de Inetum, subraya que el despliegue del sistema permitirá incrementar el nivel de protección de las fragatas F110 en puerto “frente a amenazas asimétricas”, lo que representa “un paso estratégico en el desarrollo de soluciones tecnológicas avanzadas para la protección de infraestructuras críticas y plataformas navales”. “La incorporación de inteligencia artificial y capacidades de neutralización no cinética en el sistema DRIS refuerza nuestro compromiso con la innovación, la soberanía tecnológica nacional y el apoyo a las capacidades de defensa de la Armada”, points out.
