An end-to-end IDIS video solution has responded to performance challenges, quality and affordability that hindered policing in Bristol's city centre. KIS Fire&Security completed the upgrade in Temple Quay And Glass Wharf to solve the growing list of problems that included degraded image quality, Unreliable data transmission and storage and poor usability.

Temple Quay and Glass Wharf are part of the Bristol Temple Quarter business district, which houses hundreds of companies, government offices and with services and co-working spaces, as well as bars, Restaurants and Residential Properties.

The original video system at the venue was nearly twenty years old and becoming less reliable. Underground wiring and equipment were prone to flooding, and cameras produced increasingly poor quality images. The problems were compounded by an unwieldy VMS operating system.

“The prospect of a full system upgrade seemed daunting because it would require a complete replacement of the main infrastructure, Cameras, Recorders, Etc. and a new VMS management system. But we were able to satisfy the furniture services firm Avison Young powered by IDIS, showing them an important public space system that we had recently completed for the Bristol Zoo", explains Rob Morgan, Director of KIS.

The new solution, managed by IDIS Center VMS includes PTZ cameras 8 NDAA-compliant MP displays quality images at up to 31x zoom; IR dome cameras 5 Vandal-resistant MPs; 4K recorders 8 UHD Display Compatible Channels; Specialized Network Operator Keypad; as well as assemblies, POE switches and other network accessories.

KIS completed the upgrade in less than four months, with quick installation, Backed by technology DirectIP IDIS plug-and-play, that ensures instant and seamless functionality of all devices. The system is also easier to use and now provides the security team with complete coverage of the area, including full visibility throughout (and through) of a waterway that runs through the site.

“With IDIS, The functionality of all devices means we can be more confident about completion times, even for large public space projects like Temple Quay and Glass Wharf”, Rob Morgan. “The system also comes with extended warranties and failover protection against data loss in the event of network instability; For the surveillance of public areas this type of reliability is essential”.
