In the days leading up to the big football final, the city of Houston has become a leisure center attended by more than a million people. To ensure your safety, the Police Department has implemented an integrated infrastructure with Axis dome and thermal cameras, as well as a PSIM solution from VidSys and a video management system from Genetec. Siklu has provided wireless connectivity through its EH-600TX radio system.

The City of Houston Deployed Video Surveillance System for Super Bowl Live, an event that has been organized as part of the festivities that are held prior to the grand final that took place yesterday in which the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons faced each other at NRG Stadium.

To ensure the safety of visitors who have attended this ten-day meeting (between the 27 January and the 5 February), which is estimated at more than one million people, the Police Department (The City of Houston Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security) selected the audio and video solutions of Axis Communications to install in the vicinity of the event venue, the Discovery Green, a park with an area of 48.562 square meters located in the city center.

blankA combination of dome and thermal network cameras were deployed throughout the enclosure to help control and secure the entrances., stadiums and leisure areas. The project was carried out with the help of your partner Preferred Technologies, which has been responsible for managing the surveillance team and tracking the cameras from a control center and the Houston Emergency Operations Center.

“For fans, Super Bowl Live is full of excitement and fun, for public safety personnel, requirements are complex as large crowds have to be monitored with temporary deployments. Axis' IP video surveillance solution, thermal cameras and audio products are specifically designed for critical and challenging security situations like these.", explains Fredrik Nilsson, Vice President, Axis Communications America.

Among the Axis products that were deployed for these ten days of celebration are the PTZ network dome cameras (pan-tilt-zoom), equipped with laser focus and Lightfinder and Wide Dynamic Range technologies (Wdr) that allow images to be displayed in greater detail in difficult lighting conditions.

The infrastructure also featured Axis' discreet dome network cameras and another thermal camera equipped with Eagle-i Edge, an advanced video analytics solution from Jemez Technology, designed for real-time threat detection and tracking.

Each of these cameras incorporates Zipstream technology that helps reduce network bandwidth and storage requirements. Axis network speakers were also used to be able to attract attention and deter unwanted activities.

"Maintaining public safety during an event of this size, requires close coordination between all agencies and real-time exchange of information. Axis' network surveillance team has helped us keep a close eye on crowds, have visibility in more areas at once, deploy personnel strategically and respond appropriately at all times", says Dennis Storemski, director of the City of Houston Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security.

This security infrastructure has been completed with a PSIM solution of VidSys, a video management system for Genetec and the intelligent detection sound equipment of Loure Electronics that was interconnected with the safety devices.

For its part, Siklu has provided wireless connectivity to this video surveillance system through its EH-600TX radio system that are not subject to WiFi interference so they can provide a reliable wireless connection even if there is heavy congestion in the city. System offers fiber-like quality with flexibility, the speed of deployment and affordable price associated with a wireless network.
